GGC 8, Reinhardt 2

The Georgia Gwinnett baseball team ran its winning streak to nine straight games Tuesday by breaking out the bats in a pair of wins over Reinhardt University at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

The Grizzlies (18-6) moved to 9-0 in Lawrenceville with 19-5 and 8-2 victories in seven innings over the Eagles, who fell to 14-15.

Georgia Gwinnett smacked 21 hits in the first game but needed just five in the second.

Sophomore Drew Riley and junior Tyler Carpenter each tossed five innings on the mound to earn the wins. Riley leads GGC with a 6-1 record on the year.

Robbie Payne had three hits over the two games to extend a 12-game hitting streak while Phillip Bates scored four total runs for GGC.

“We had two more outstanding pitching performances tonight and our offensive mentality was in a great place,” said Grizzlies head coach Brad Stromdahl. “It’s been great playing at home and we are playing very well here. These were two more great team wins.”

The Grizzlies travel to Covenant College Friday afternoon for a single game before hosting CC Saturday at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.

Georgia Gwinnett is on a stretch where 17 of 18 games are at home in Lawrenceville.
