Athletic Outfielders Ready for Upcoming Softball Season

With Friday’s season opener on the horizon, Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg can’t hold back her excitement when discussing the athleticism of Grizzlies that will be roaming the outfield for the 2025 Georgia Gwinnett College softball team.

This year’s outfield is going to be fast. This athleticism and speed will assist us. We’ve been more willing to go all-out in our fall games and preseason intrasquad games,
- Head Coach Kat Ihlenburg, who enters her 13th season in the GGC dugout

GGCAthletics.com concludes the team’s preseason position preview series by highlighting the players who will be catching fly balls and throwing out opposing baserunners. The Grizzlies are scheduled to begin the spring slate by hosting the Grizzly Open, beginning Friday, February 14, and continuing through Sunday, February 16, at the Grizzly Softball Complex.

Junior Enna Lackey helped jumpstart GGC’s postseason success, including the program’s second straight trip to the NAIA World Series. Overall, she posted a .281 batting average and was 11-for-12 in stolen base attempts in 10 starts.

“Enna is one of the anchors of our outfield group,” noted Ihlenburg. “She has done a great job getting stronger during the offseason. Enna is so dialed in and focused on what she needs to do for us.”

Sophomore Sophie Sisk appeared in 33 games, with 28 starts, during her collegiate debut season in 2024. She scored 13 runs and tallied six extra-base hits.

Senior Lindzie Owen is a versatile player who could contribute to the team by tracking down fly balls in center or left fields, being a key part of the team’s battery as catcher, or diving to make plays as an infielder.

Owen scored a team-best 34 runs and hit .330 while starting all 43 games last season. As a sophomore, she earned first-team NAIA All-America honors after swiping 56 stolen bases. She has 105 steals so far in her career.

The most successful outfielders that I’ve had here just knew how to get to the ball – an important component for any reliable and good outfielder. I think we have a new crop of outfielders that have the athletic skills and experience to duplicate the success of our former great outfielders,

Sophomore Kaitlyn Crumley and senior Kailyn Berry are other returning outfield options for the 2025 team. Crumley also adds depth to the catching unit and Berry is one of four senior pitchers.
