All-American Forward to Lead Men’s Soccer Scoring Punch

NAIA All-American and Continental Athletic Conference Player of the Year Alejandro Contrera returns for his sophomore campaign to lead the offensive attack for the Georgia Gwinnett College men’s soccer team this upcoming season.

GGCAthletics.com concludes the squad’s preseason position previews, examining the quartet of quality players who will bring an increased physical and athletic presence to the Grizzlies’ forward unit.

Contrera scored 10 goals, including four match-winning efforts, and contributed five assists from 71 shot attempts during his initial season in Lawrenceville. The 6-foot-2 forward from Asuncion, Paraguay, got better as the season progressed, having goals in four consecutive October matches.

It’s time for Alejandro to make that next big jump in his development. He was very good for us last year, but I also felt he left a lot of goals on the field. He has put in the hard work and time to take his game to another level. The third All-American team honor was nice (last season), but I want him to be a first teamer. He also has the qualities to be the national player of the year,

Complimenting Contrera in the offensive attack will be junior Joshua Orue, a fellow Paraguay native who has scored seven goals and had 18 points across 30 career matches.

Meanwhile, freshmen Ousmane Fall, at 6-foot-2, and Cheikh Samb, at 6-foot-1, will stand tall in an offense that’s striving to increase production from 50 goals in 2024.

“Ousmane joined us in the spring and those three months in our system have been important in making the adjustment to the college game and accepting our program’s culture. The twin towers (with Contrera and Fall) will give us one of the biggest frontlines in the country. They’re going to help each other and the team,” stated DeCou during the preseason.

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to open the season at the Dalton State Classic with matches against Campbellsville University (Kentucky) and Brescia University (Kentucky) on August 21 and August 23, respectively. The team’s home opener is set against Lawrence Tech (Michigan) on August 28 at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
