Morris HR celebration
Senior Livingston Morris celebrates after hitting one of his 13 home runs in 2021

Baseball Has New-Look Outfield

Fresh faces will be roaming throughout the outfield at the Grizzly Baseball Complex when the Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team takes the field this spring.

Senior Livingston Morris is the unit’s lone returning player and he spent a majority of the national championship 2021 season as the team’s productive designated hitter. When the four-year player from Woodstock, Georgia, has been on the field, it has been in right field.

Seven newcomers are competing for playing time in the outfield as the top-ranked Grizzlies begin the 2022 campaign at home against Cumberland University (Tennessee) on February 4.

Morris hit
Senior Livingston Morris is the only returning outfielder from the 2021 championship squad
We’ve lost key pieces (Griffin Keller, Nick Barnes and Cord Johnson) who were primarily everyday starters. It is great to have Livingston back. He will see more time in the outfield, along with still being the designated hitter. Livingston did a great job directing our newcomers during our fall practices. He’s a leader,
- Head Coach Jeremy Sheetinger, who has posted a 74-12 record in two seasons leading the GGC program

Morris was a productive force in the middle of the team’s lineup last spring, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 75 runs. He batted .399 and legged out 21 doubles in 54 starts.

Many of the 2022 newcomers are well familiar with the rigors of collegiate baseball. Sophomore Joshua Holt Jr. and junior Ryan Hunt have NCAA Division I backgrounds. Classmate Blaze O’Saben played at Gordon State College (Georgia) while sophomore Gavin Harmon also spent time at an in-state junior college.

We’ve added some new faces to the outfield. This is an area with some questions heading into the season: How will our outfield play on offense and defense. We’ve replaced last year’s productive players with some really athletic guys who can really get the baseball and all have offensive tools. There’s a healthy mix of guys who hit for power and bring elements to our offense that create pressure for our opponents,
